Almost two-and-a-half months after the massive military operation was launched in Bajaur Agency against militants, the security forces on Friday finally captured the strategically important Loisam area from the militants.

The importance of Loisam for the military was its strategic location and may be that’s why the security forces and militants were both using all their resources for the control of the area.

Sources among the militants said the areas where Loisam was situated were in control of an Afghan Taliban commander, Qari Ziaur Rahman, known for beheading his rivals. He and his men, including Afghans, Arabs and militants from adjoining Mohmand Agency and the South Waziristan, were offering tough resistance to the security forces. Also, the security forces had suffered heavy losses in the areas close to Loisam, where several senior military officers died either in fighting or were targeted by militants through snipers.
