We recently hired a new yaya. She’s quite young. In fact, she just graduated from elementary a year ago.
A few days later, she showed me the section she answered. Hmm, she chose to answer the exercise where the student/reader is to determine if the phrase is an independent or a dependent clause. Uhm… she got 3 out of 10 questions right.

Sabi ko, bigyan niya na lang ako ng mga words na nabasa na niya pero hindi niya naiintindihan. Ok, eto ang mga words: Polite. Courteous. Industrious. Entertainment.

I explained the meaning of those words. Medyo basic words, noh? In fact, na-award-an siya ng Most Industrious at Most Courteous nang hindi nalalaman kung ano ibig sabihin nun! Di ka nagtanong sa teacher mo? Hindi po. Kasi magagalit.

Pero eto ang pamatay. She asked me what the word KIND means! Nawindang ako. Kahit ata grade 1, alam ang kind.
