THIS year is seeing a bumper crop of daisies, much to the delight of little Mia Bavington.

Mia, of Epsom, Surrey, has been busy making daisy chains after weeks of rain followed by intense sun has led to a spectacular display across Britain.

Botanists say we haven’t seen anything like this for at least 15 years.

The plentiful rain means their stalks are much longer than usual, which as Mia, four, knows, is perfect for making daisy chains.

“They are bigger and more vibrant this year,” says Dominic Price, a botanist at the conservation charity Plantlife, in Wiltshire.

“They are showing the most spectacular growth patterns for the last 15 years.”

Gardeners will be less happy, however. Nothing, it seems, can keep this year’s “super daisies” down.

“They are ruining my grass,” said Sam Baker, 51, from Cambridge.

“As soon as I have mown the lawn they just grow back again.

“I don’t like the idea, but I may have to think about weedkiller.”
