A woman who fatally stabbed her boyfriend in front of her three children while arguing over a pagan religious ceremony was sentenced to prison Wednesday for 15 years to life.
Prosecutors say Dilmaghanian stabbed Harris once in the heart with a knife she wore in a scabbard around her neck.
Dilmaghanian became upset with Harris because she felt he had improperly performed a "cleansing ceremony" on another knife, which Harris had recently acquired, according to prosecutors.
Peggy Tidwell, who said she was Dilmaghanian's best friend, told news reporters that she, Dilmaghanian and Harris practiced "Asatru," a version of Norse paganism from the Viking Age.
Tidwell said Asatru ceremonies are accompanied by the drinking of homemade mead. The knife-cleansing ceremony involved heating the knife in a fire, then cooling it in a stream, she said.
Tidwell said Dilmaghanian told her "the knife's spirit came out and possessed Nathan."
