Soft drink company Coca Cola has been ordered to take out newspaper advertisements clarifying the contents of an advertising campaign deemed potentially misleading.
The soft drink giant ran a campaign late last year stating it was a myth that Coke made people fat, rots their teeth and contains lots of caffeine.
The ads featured Australian actress Kerry Armstrong talking about motherhood and myth-busting.
The Australian Dental Association, the Parents Jury and the Obesity Policy Coalition complained to the consumer watchdog the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) that the campaign breached the Trade Practices Act.
The ACCC believes the advertisements had the potential to mislead consumers by suggesting the soft drink cannot contribute to weight gain or tooth decay.
